AMERICANS HELD HOSTAGE

Since 1960, we’ve elected federal leaders who have allowed us to be held hostage by a small cabal callous to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The countries in this clan have proven to be interested in lining their own pockets with American dollars, while forcing us to tolerate their generally evil ways.

They are the nations of OPEC.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries—OPEC—was founded in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1960 by five countries: Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait. These nations are OPEC’s “Founder Members” and keepers of the world’s largest ready-to-drill-now oil reserves. The quintet has masterfully arranged a world system in which they are the primary arbiters of the price per barrel of oil, because they control the majority of the supply.

Saudi Arabia’s ruling royal family possesses the largest “proved discovered” oil reserves on the planet (I’ll explain the difference between the types of reserves in a moment). It’s estimated that Saudi Arabia holds 25 percent of the world’s oil. If you want to know why President George W. Bush famously held the king of Saudi Arabia’s hand (a Sharia-loving monarch, who treats women like chattel, hates Jews, and will not tolerate a single Bible brought within his borders) during a visit to his Texas ranch in 2005, it’s because our two countries are codependents.

Venezuela owns the second-largest proved discovered oil reserves. It’s a land run by the communist kook Hugo Chavez, the dictator whom President Obama initially greeted with a bro shake (if you’ll recall, Obama bowed upon his first encounter with the Saudi king).

Iran has the third-largest proved discovered reserves. It, too, is a nation run by extremists; in this case Jihad-loving Muslim clerics and a puppet president who denies the Holocaust.

Iraq is home to the fourth-largest proved discovered reserves. Iraq’s former dictator, Saddam Hussein, was the most maniacal of the OPEC crew, and the other founding members were likely pleased to see him eliminated.

Kuwait is keeper of the planet’s fifth-biggest proved discovered oil deposits. Kuwait’s ruling family has been quite generous with their oil revenue, taming the subjects of their small country by turning it into a highly developed welfare state, shrouded in a quasi-free-market economy.

These five Founding Members rule OPEC with an iron fist. Their bylaws allow other nations to join their club as “Full Members” as long as the state in question has “a substantial net export of crude petroleum, [and] fundamentally similar interests to those of Member Countries.”19

One can only wonder what “similar interests” refers to? Given that the Full Members are Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Nigeria, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates, it would appear as if “similar interests” include assorted shades of tyranny, as all Full Member states are highly influenced by either Islamic Sharia law or varying degrees of Marxism. This is also very important: all OPEC countries have state-run oil companies, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for for-profit corporations to do business with them. For example, in January 2011, Ecuador, who for
